Dr. Bruce Lieberman has been selected as the recipient of an outstanding honors teaching award for the departmental honors course Biology 101.

The selection committee was impressed with student feedback about Lieberman’s course and steps he’s taken to relaunch and further develop Biology 101 as an honors course for non-biology majors. The committee stated that student feedback they received and course activities illuminated how Lieberman encourages deep scientific thinking among students from a range of academic disciplines. Biology 101 encourages students to immerse themselves in the course content and to bring their own academic interests to it. The committee reiterated that this form of learning has tremendous value for KU Honors and the broader university.

Lieberman was recognized at the fall 2025 Honors Convocation, which took place Sunday, Aug. 17 in the Burge Union.  The recognition comes with a $1,000 award.

Lieberman is an Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department Professor and Senior Curator at the University of Kansas Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum.
